Overlooked European Destinations

Europe is a continent of limitless adventures. No matter how well you think you know it, or how well-travelled you are, there's always something new to explore. You'll never run out of new things to see and do.

Here at Haggis, we’re all about delivering awesome adventures. That means letting you in on all the epic destinations and local gems around our wee country. We've put together a list of top destinations around Europe that you might not have considered for your next holiday.

Scotland is our top pick, obvz. Aye, we are a wee bit biased. Wherever you choose to visit, though, you can be sure of a memorable adventure that will quench your thirst for travel, for a short while at least.

Scotland

Every year, over 36 million visitors from abroad come to the UK. However, only a tiny fraction - just 3.2 million - ever make it up to Scotland. What's that all about? We think that's an absolute crime! Scotland is bursting with history, heritage, and otherworldly landscapes. From the capital city through Glencoe, and all the way up to Orkney and Shetland, this epic country has everything you could want from a true travel adventure. Make sure you check out our range of Haggis tours that will help you explore the very best of Scotland.

Slovenia

Squeezed in between Italy and Austria, Slovenia is a country of insane natural beauty. Make your way out of the capital into the Triglav National Park and enjoy the crystal clear rivers and lakes. The park is one of Europe's best water sports hotspots, with rafting and canyoning being some of the country's highlights. Don't miss out on the chance to visit the amazing Lake Bled and spend some time relaxing by the waterside. Liechtenstein

This unique, German-speaking country can be crossed in just 25 minutes by car. It's Europe's fourth-smallest nation, but its one of its most fascinating. When you stop by, get stuck into some of its cool history; interestingly its borders have remained unchanged since the days of the Holy Roman Empire. Highlights include the Gutenberg Castle, the Cathedral of St. Florin and the country's excellent skiing region, Malbun.

Monaco

Monaco is a totally remarkable country. It's one of the last surviving city-states and one of the richest countries in the world relative to its size. Situated amidst the French Riviera and surrounded by some of its best wine country, Monaco is a perfect city-break destination if you're looking for a pinch of style and class. Expect it to be a touch on the pricey side, though. Over 30% of its population is made up of millionaires! Monaco is only a short journey away from Nice, which you can visit on Busabout's awesome hop-on-hop-off service.

San Marino

This micro-state is home to perhaps one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. The view from the top of Monte Titano - the UNESCO world heritage site around which San Marino city is built - is simply breathtaking. The nation also has a unique culture and heritage all of its own. Whilst its official language is Italian, many of the locals speak Romagnol - a uniquely Sammarinese dialect. If you want to visit a rare destination that will have your friends turning green, visit San Marino.

Poland

Poland is one of Europe's hidden gems that's mysteriously been left wide-out in the open. The country only sees 15 million tourists each year. However, it's one of the most colourful and interesting countries on the continent. With a reputation for excellent food, drink and design, Poland is a great place to indulge your senses. Its summers are long and hot, with snowy winters that will give you those warm, fuzzy, Christmassy feelings. Visit Krakow for a magical winter break.
